Good Bye 2008

I am ready to say goodbye to 2008! I turned 50, got a kid in college, another one in high school and my last child has become a junior high student. It has been a eventful year, I have enjoyed a lot of it. I will not lie having your Hubby go to the hospital a few days before Christmas does make you want to push on.

A year ago I remember well what I was doing. I soaked my black eyed peas, I was working furiously in the kitchen. I remember thinking it was all so much. Since then I have realized how disorganized my life was, I did a lot of things but very few well. My focus on this year will be to get my life more and more ease of use. I want my life, home and family to be able to be confident when a crisis happens. That is in a very brief snip my New Year’s Resolution. To dump stuff, to give away, sell and let go of all the stuff that has felt pulling me down. I use David Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover daily. I look at my budget at least once a day if not more. I use Flylady as a housecleaning support system. Those two things have given me the tools to move forward.

What I have truly been thankful for this year has been my friends. I have my No Surrender gals that have been with me for years. I also have my Entrecard blogging buddies. It has been a year of much love felt. From going out to dinner with my other 50 yr old friends to my wonderful family. 2008 was truly a growth year for me. I remember the year I turned 30 as amazing year, 40 was even bigger and better. 50 has not disappointed me at all. In many ways it is the year I found myself, the best part of Kathy. Not the Kathy that others thought I should be but the Kathy I am deep down.

For that I am grateful to God. For him to have pushed me, nudged me and dragged me to where I needed to be. It is with him all things are possible, his love and belief in me were there before my own in myself.

One of my favorite song is Our God is an Awesome God. I was looking up a scripture that says what I wanted to leave you with and I found this site. It says what is in my heart better than I could.

Be not afraid, look to the New Year with all the possibilities it holds.

Uncle T’s Christmas

Sconicle got a new video camera for Christmas. The short story is we tried with several failures to send this video to him. Now it is just easier to post it! BTW the camera was in the budget. Every kid got two gifts, except Sconicle got four. His dollar amount was still less than the other two.

To my brother welcome, to the rest of you yes I am at the end of the video, trying to hurry up both Granny and Sconicle.

Uncle T just know anything written about you is still sorta private!

Classic Laughs!

Christmas Day is over. Today you can bet I am cleaning, shopping and hoping you had a great Christmas! My favorite entertainers are usually gone from earth. Thankfully Youtube has enabled those who have not enjoyed great entertainment to be able to see the comedic greats, and the musical greats of yesterday.

Combine great music and comedy and two names pop up in my mind- Dean Martin and Victor Borge. You bet I found a jewel. It is my Friday gift to you! Love your family and enjoy five minutes of classic fun!

Merry Christmas

Christmas is about one thing. The birth of Jesus. The savior of the world. As I drove today to pick up a gift that I did not think I would be able to afford for my special little guy, a special warmth came over me. Think of being Mary, carrying the savior of the world without her family supporting her. She had only one confident that truly loved her, Joseph. Joseph and Mary listened to God, believed God, and more than anything else knew he was faithful. They were poor, tired and hungry. They had nothing but the warmth of knowing that they were following God’s path.

God give them a gift that would never compare to anything you can buy at a store, true salvation. God knew we needed Jesus, and so did Mary and Joseph! They were steadfast in a journey they did not understand fully, yet they remained steadfast to God. That gave us the joy we have knowing Everlasting Life!

As I watched my Hubby almost fall to the ground a few short days ago I knew deep down God would provide a way. He would not fail me as people have. This year has been one of ups and downs, separations and trials, but one thing I do know is God is my comforter. He hears my pleas when no one else does, he knows my heart. Hubby and I have never been closer, but God is my salvation.

I know where I have been, I know Jesus upclose and personal. That my friends is the best gift I can give anyone! The true gift of the season!

Dunk

This is the picture my family is so happy about. This is Jake and Dunk with the wild hog on the farm. The wild hogs are tearing up the wheat, eating anything in their path. They say there are thousands in our area, we have seen six recently. They have caught four, but have killed two more that did not get in the pen.

There you go this picture Dunk is very proud of!

I am overwhelmed with housework, wrapping, and last minute shopping. It is a wonderful thing to have Hubby back home and well. But with that comes the rush to have everything done on time.

I hope to post on Christmas Day but no guarantees!

Blog On Hold

My Hubby was admitted to the hospital late last night. It may be cardiac related or abdomen related. He is okay right now and being monitored. Until I know more or have time I will not be able to post.

The main thing is he is doing well now, and I hope they will figure out what is wrong.

If I am not back online have a Very Merry Christmas. We will celebrate it whenever get to get together as a family, and Daddy is home.

Highway Robbery

I apologize this post is a bit late in the day. As I type I realize what kind of day I woke up to! I was handling financial stuff before any caffeine! I do not recommend that in any way! It just happened, kind of like falling out of Dunk’s big truck. You know it might happen but you dread it!

Let’s start at the “begine” I have been trying to tame my paper tiger tail. It is a deep, wide and frankly over grown beast of itself! I was up till 2 AM, yes I know that is late. I overslept till 8, yes I know that is late for me as well. I got a lot done, but not as much as I wish. I am doing the Dave Ramsey’s My Total Money Makeover Program. I am working on my budget crunching the numbers hard as I can. Hubby is glad I got it done, but doesn’t like my numbers. His words for Dell can not be repeated here let’s just say that.

Credit Cards have you over a barrel and here is why. If you pay too much in Finance charges you are giving money away. Then if you don’t pay them they ruin your credit bureau so you cannot even refinance an existing mortgage for a lower rate if you need to. Hubby says the companies should be renamed to Highway Robbery. Like I said he doesn’t like my numbers.

But let us escape for a second any ugly numbers. Let us virtually go where we have not gone before! Let us pretend money is no object, my paper trail is something I can handle. Enter the Scan I salivate for! Yes this bad boy would make my paper clutter worn butt happy as a lark. Today just today we are going to pretend you and I own this puppy! CCs are zero, and life is easy!

Yes I know you can think me later!

Self Needed Post!

This post could easily sound like a fussy post, believe me it is not. Tonight as I write this it is as much for me as it is for you.

I need to hear this, read it and know it. Life is short. The economy is not going well. Christmas will be upon our families soon. Every checkbook has limits, don’t let anyone think otherwise. Your budget is what it is. You can only spend so much money. Normally this time of year I am ready, but want to spend more. This year I have yet to shop, but I know how much I have. I cannot grow money on a tree, God knows first hand I have tried!

That is the situation. Whatever you have budgeted and bought this year will be loved and appreciated. That is it. The only message I want to give. Don’t ignore your budget, your needs for cash after Christmas. Realize that today it will be okay.

You are blessed to be here on earth, and your family has the gift of you and each other.

I admit the furvor of the season makes me think about material goods. Without Dave Ramsey I would be tempted, so I have included a link to his tips here.

Jesus is the reason, and he laid in a cold stable, your kids will survive with your love and a gift you can afford.

I am Going there!

In this tipsy topsy world you have to know that funny is funny! And yes you know what I am speaking of! SNL Governor Patterson skit was funny! Oh give me a break, I am not politically correct and refuse to comply.

You betchya! Dick Cheney gun jokes are funny. It is okay to laugh when it is funny. I defy you to watch this and not laugh!

I do love our country, where you can laugh when it is funny without a firing squad! Where a shoe can be thrown without the immediate death penalty. Bush has a heck of reaction time too!
