I have said in the past that I am not against alternative energy technology. I am also not against high-speed transportation in Texas. What I am against is the Trans Texas Corridor. It is because of Rick Perry that we have this pain in our Texas lives. I have heard a lot about this train called Maglev. I am not a scientist but I am a person that feels if Texas or America can find a train that is low impact, fast speed and safe we as a society are better off. My complaint with the TTC as Texans call it is that is requesting a two mile width area that will displace generational farms, cemeteries, small communities and rural life as Texans know it. As a Big City girl (what I am called in town) I first hand know the frustration of driving I-35 from San Antonio to Dallas, it is a nightmare. What makes Texas such a great state is the ability to drive in any direction and see land. Real land, land that is still plowed, farmed and ranched. As many people don’t understand I can drive from Central Texas and never leave Texas. A huge state requires some ingenuity to fix a transportation problem. What it doesn’t take is a foreign company to come in and take our land.
Now I am unsure if this train is the answer but I do know our governor should find out everything he can about it. This train offers Texas more than he has. The structure from what I have read is fast to put up versus the other type of trains. It does use less energy and is quiet. The wonderful part about it is you can see landscape and cities near to it, which tells you there is no two-mile wide clearance needed.
It will take you over eight minutes to watch the video but I think it Texas rural life is worth eight minutes of time.

Kathy:
I agree with you that the maglev train is something Texas should look into. I'm a longtime proponent of the technology and, truth be told, used to work for the Transrapid company in the U.S. for several years.
You posted my favorite video, which is really why I'm responding, but I also wanted to mention that Transrapid runs on elevated tracks that, once built, allow for farming, livestock grazing or whatever was going on before (animal migrations, say) to continue without much physical interruption.
There's a full-scale test facility in Germany that was built 25 years ago in open farmland. The farmers are paid for the use of their land and have had normal access to their land, as I said, since construction was complete. So I'm not just making things up.
If you'd like to see what I and others are doing about maglev, please visit my Web site at http://www.maglevtransport.com.
Sincerely,
Larry Blow
Larry,
Thanks so much for responding. My brother is currently living in Germany. I am unsure if he has ridden the Maglev, but he is very positive about many of the high speed trains in Germany and Europe. They have really tried to keep the landscape beautiful.
I will pass along your information to a few people that I know need to see this (politicians looking for alternatives). As I researched the Maglev train this was the best video I found. If I could ever ride it I know I would love it even more. Magnet energy is something like solar to me, I have been fascinated by it since I was a child.
I will visit your site for more information and hope that my readers will as well!
Thanks Again!
Kathy: One more thing. There are some people in Texas who are working to get high-speed ground transportation systems, including maglev, into the public's attention. One such group is the Texas High Speed Rail and Transportation Corp., who are pushing for a "Brazos Express" corridor to link Killeen-Temple through Bryan/College Station to Houston...the "Texas T-Bone" as they say. The group can be found at http://www.thsrtc.com./
These folks are the most positive group pushing high-speed travel I know in the whole country these days. Check 'em out and maybe you'll get in their corner.
Best regards,
Larry
Larry I will check them out. I want what is best for Texas long term, and in that way best for the entire state.
Hey Kathy!
Thanks for the insightful post!
I would like to see the maglev come to Texas. It makes me sick to think about giving a 2 mile easement to the alternative.
One reason we moved to the country was to get away from all the concrete and steel. We have invested everything we have in our land and home.
If that train took our land we would be devistated.
Just dropped in to say Howdy Neighbor!
Jules
Jules,
I could tell we were sisters from another mother! I have sent several congressman people this link as well as Steve Ogden my state senator. I want the buzz to begin in Texas that we do want fast movement but true land and farming sustainability. Thanks for coming by!
I was wondering what was going on with the train-- great video-- I am learning so much here! LOL
great feedback from your guests here!
Thanks Susan I do take off a few days of TTC bashing.
