Shrimp and Crocs

I have often talked about good recipes coming from a person that understands the protein. My brother’s work is across from a shrimp market, it is on the docks and he has fresh from the boat shrimp. We went in there on our way out of town to get some fresh shrimp to take home to the casa. T-Ray has a way he does it, and we have always done it that way. We put water in a bag and freeze the shrimp with peels and all. We peel and de-vein when we cook.

As we spoke to the shrimp expert, he gave me a recipe that we had seen at many places all over Rockport for $12-15.00 an appetizer. I am going to share it with you free Today! Call it a freebie!

You take the shrimp, peel them and de-vein them as you would if you were going to eat them immediately. Then you put in lemon juice, garlic and either Creole or Cajun seasoning, then vacuum bag those shrimp right in that mixture and freeze. When you take them out to eat, it only takes a few minutes for them to thaw. You take very thinly sliced bacon, I found cheap store brand bacon, and you cut the bacon in halves. You wrap the bacon around the jumbo shrimp securing it with a toothpick, and throw them on the grill. It is the best shrimp I think I have ever eaten. Trust me I have eaten several families of weight in shrimp, I lived in Louisiana for a couple of years, and our family has always gone to the coast, cooked shrimp and brought pounds back. It is better than shrimp scampi, better than tempura batter shrimp it is just mouth watering. Being jumbo shrimp you really don’t need that much. I eat two on a bed of Cajun rice, along with a salad.

As I write this, I would say only use fresh shrimp, but T-Ray swears that most boats have a flash freezer they use. You don’t see him eating shrimp away from the ocean either. It just makes common sense, he eats chicken and beef when he comes to town, and we eat shrimp when we go there. It goes back to the fresh idea. You want meat that is close to the source.

Our lives are back, and the island part of us has faded some. The boys all wanted camouflage crocs, I got high-heeled crocs we all wanted those more than any t-shirt. I used to buy magnets from every vacation, but I have so many broken that seems a waste of money. Shoes we will wear, I have looked high and low for high-heeled crocs with no luck. The owner of the shop and I had a great time, her love of crocs is even greater than mine! When I was working crocs were a treat at the end of a day when my dogs were barking. According to the owner, you need to try on each style they all fit differently.
I have worn them around the house, but I will wear them the next time I need to look good. They make your legs look skinny.

Make the shrimp, you will not be disappointed!

Stumble It!

Jen at jennsylvania.com showcased her high-heeled Crocs she received a few weeks ago - she recently wrote a book in which she stated how fond she is of her Crocs & the company sent her some. But then, her book is on the best-seller list, so it is pretty high-profile publicity.

Glad you had such a great time with your bro. The shrimp sounds great. The pig farmer says: you should tell people they should use high-end bacon, not the cheap stuff! ~wink~

HEB,
I went to her site, those are not the same as mine. As I found out, Crocs has so many styles. The kind I got are sandal strappy sexy kind! My Hubby at first was mad, but he likes them on!! Going to have to photograph them! I sometimes get free stuff, but Crocs would work! Cayman is my everyday pair!

I should have written in, center cut extra thin sliced. It would be better flavor the better bacon you use no doubt about that. Our meat market that I use for bacon wasn't open. The bacon adds a smoky flavor according to the fish guy.

A and K sure do love their crocs. Everyone else took plain $3 flip flops to shower in Iraq...mine took crocs! hahaha I sure didn't realize they had so many styles. I may have to look into a pair that's more "me". hehe Thanks for the heads up!~

Kathy, I was trying to figure out what part of Texas that you live in and recogized the city of Rockport. I used to visit Flour Bluff often to see my ex-MIL before she passed away. We would take a ride over to Rockport to dine sometimes.
Back in those days, we would meet the shrimp boats to bring home an ice chest full of shrimp at the end of every visit. I LOVE shrimp!

I was born and raised in the Dallas area, but am now living in Kansas. Sometimes I miss Texas, but not when it is 108 as it was today. Although our 104 isn't too much different...well minus the humidity.
I had no idea there are high heel Crocs. Being over 6' barefooted, I rarely wear heals any longer. I'm not sure I could walk in them, but they are adorable.

Anajz you know my roots are in Dallas but I am way off the well beaten path. We live in Central Texas, it is way off of I35. I always say we live in the middle of nowhere, when people ask the name of our town they never recognize it. It is just too far off the path of most travelers. We used to go to Port Aransas all the time, my great aunt lived right there on the beach. She was amazing woman.
