Aspirin Honey Mask

I have heard about this concoction for a few months. After pricing the exfoliaters I like I have decided to try it. I always have honey on hand, and aspirin is cheap. I used two old aspirins that I found in an emergency kit, they were from 2006. I also added some water, next time I am skipping the water. I have a pedestal and mortar so I can use that instead, then you add a teaspoon of hone. With my old soft toothbrush (oral B) I gently rubbed it in. Remember my skin is extremely sensitive, it did not activate my skin at all. I had found a video where the woman’s skin was beautiful, and she explained why but this video shows you better how to do it.

Since I have tried this I will no longer buy exfoliaters they don’t do what this does for a fraction of the price.

My Budget oh my Budget

I am running very late today. My allergies are in full force of trying to make me drip, sneeze and drain into a pool of human flesh. My family and I except for Hubby all get allergies from October till February. I have been trying to clear up and clean up which of course is causing more dust, which I am allergic to. Hopefully soon I will get better, I have this spray but it tastes awful. After this morning I have to use it regardless of the taste, this is no way to try to breathe air.

So where do I begin? Layoffs are happening at my Hubby’s work. At this moment he doesn’t intend to take the voluntary retirement. Although he could if he wanted to, but since he is actually too young to retire for life it seems hard to do. There will be layoffs if they don’t have enough volunteers. Next month we will know if he is safe or not. No one really knows who or what department they will choose, or how they will come up with the people they will lay off. As a precaution the administration is keeping it close to the vest the criteria, only that they intend to be fair. Hubby and I totally understand the need to do layoffs, his job is dependent on the housing market with a focus on new construction or remodels. Few people are building or remodeling, the company says the outlook for them is long term recovery. They did lay off maybe a year ago, but they did not lay off as many as other companies.

Now the same day we read online the layoffs were officially happening Hubby got the news that he had to stay off work for a week. Seems somehow he injured or re-injured his elbow in the middle of the night. He woke up in agony, after going to the doctor there is something wrong with his bone, he is on predisone to get the swelling down. Next month he will see the orthopedic. For one week he is taking FMLA, the Federal Medical Leave Act. His company gives him a few days and the option of FMLA. One week is a few days too many without FMLA. You don’t get full pay with FMLA, you get partial pay.

This takes me to my Budget panic, I had just figured out how to make it after double electric bills for two months, but that was with full pay. I will have to figure out deeper cuts in our checkbook. It will be a tough Christmas season, I already have a couple huge bills coming due. Once we pay those we will be home free, but the relief only comes after the bill is paid. This Christmas I plan to be creative with the kids gifts, it will not be what they expect. I have an idea, if Hubby will agree. It could be fun and cheap, while giving them a place to get exercise and have fun. Whether he agrees or not the reality is I have to be creative, there is no extra money.

That is reality for me and many others. While I cannot tell you what I plan I can give you ideas of things. I plan on searching and finding options. Gator from time to time reads my blog. So I have to keep it secret until after Christmas, but if it works it will be fun!

Market Change

Hubby came home one day from work all excited. He said Walmart had a new brand we had to try. I asked what the name was, he said it was called Great Value. Funny since Great Value has been around for years at Walmart.

Lo and Behold I entered Walmart last night for a few staples. There in the center aisle was a plain white label marked sugar called Great Value. The pretty blue package was gone, the price seemed about the same as the pretty blue Great Value pure cane sugar I buy. Interesting choice of marketing by Walmart, I have yet to try the new packaged sugar but my guess is the sugar is just the same.

I went to the coffee aisle just to check on the coffee I have been drinking for the last five years I know. It is Great Value Arabica Coffee with a red label. Sure enough no red label, only a white label with the Arabica kind of coffee. While I am sure Walmart is convinced this will sell more, buying the white label with the blue lid seemed wrong. I kept looking back to make sure my red label was gone! It was the same price, after this long I know exactly how much my coffee is.

If you haven’t tried Great Value, many products taste great if not better than more expensive brands. My coffee is the best I can find, smooth yet strong. Some of the products are not exactly great but the price makes trying them worth the time!

Just so you know I am not crazy, I took a picture of the coffee!

Update 10/26/09 This is indeed the same exact coffee. Trust me I would know, I bring my own coffee to every place I vacation.

Some of My Best

I thought today I would do a look back at some of my best posts. Bloggers in the know say over 500 words is a waste of time. With my chatty self, 500 takes mucho editing. If you are new enjoy, if not take a moment to glance back.

I started the blog in 2007. But until 2008 it did not really get rolling.

My favorite Football Post is HERE.

Tips to Blogging can be found HERE

A great way to save money in the kitchen is HERE

And finally my history with the Beast or Cancer as you people call it, this post is about all those people on the waiting list HERE.

Indi I will fix that video, I promised Sconicle we would do a homeschool group activity this afternoon, look for it to be fixed tomorrow though!

Chocolate Facial

I love chocolate, to me there is nothing better than anything that smells like it. I found this video because Better TV has a lot of fun facial ideas, I don’t get this show in my area but thanks to YouTube I know all about it.

Tom Thumb is up to drinking four oz. at a time drinking. I have to slowly stretch his stomach while transitioning him to cow’s milk. He has drank up all my frozen colostrum from other moms. Krissy helps out as much as she can but she has two babies getting as much as they can.

Tomorrow I can comfortably take his picture. I did not want to jinx him. Splitear stood up yesterday and in the even she came out in the open pen. Maybe tomorrow she will be able to graze like the other goats. She is still weak but growing stronger everyday.

Every kidding I learn so much, this time has not be easy but I am glad I have learned so much.

Upside Down Tomatoes

I have heard of people being very happy with upside down tomatoes. You don’t need a fancy kit, you only need a 5 gallon bucket. Almost anything a farm uses comes in a barrel, a feed bag or a 5 gallon bucket. Well most things, other things come in really big tanks. We are forever trying to find creative ways of using what we have.

You can even buy a five gallon bucket at Home Depot. We went garage saling where a family used a plywood sheet and four Home Depot Buckets to display thier wears.

Tipnut has the link with all the instructions. Upside Down Tomatoes.

The latest goat news is Faith has two little boys. They were hopping around, buzzards circling! All four babies, and Splitear and Faith are safely housed in the chicken coop. It is a small coop, so we are in the process of moving another pen to house the rest of the families for a few days. It takes three days for the babies able to run fast enough from an owl or a buzzard.

So far they look good and healthy.

Our FFA banquet was last night. Gator won Greenhand Star In Placement Award. According to Gator that is the big kahuna. He has a nice placque, he ended up getting four awards. He is a go getter when it comes to Agriculture. His focus has always been more into animals than mechanics, and I am thrilled he is doing well.

Facial From Your Kitchen

I am always on the lookout for frugal skincare. My quest for something different has been interesting. I happen to have all the ingredients in this facial recipe, it is less than 2 minutes and simple.

I am using Banana Baby food, mainly because I have it.

Commit to the Paint

My life can be full to the top. That is where I am. Between Dunk being on spring break, keeping Gator and Sconicle on track and the animals on track I find myself more tired. Even though I am tired, I also feel revived. Texas had some great weather this week and last week, which can so make me feel a bit like spring.

I am slowly, frugally doing some simple redecorating. Sconicle’s room is almost done, except a coat of paint. His bedding still needs an update but I am looking for bargains, which in his style are not easy to find. His toys have been paired down and organized; it is a relaxing fun room. The last touch was his curtains. I had been shopping for fabric online and in the stores, even at Goodwill without any luck. I am a great sewer of curtains and drapes, not in any way a sewer of clothes. Fabric was just out of reach at what I was finding. Target and Wal-Mart were having sheet sales though. The last run to the feed store we stopped at the new Target, and picked up curtains for the living room and Sconicle’s room. His can eventually go along with his hope for bedding. I checked out with three huge window dressings for less than twenty dollars.

Spring has that effect on me, a fresh clean start is always good. Sconicle is ready and fresher than ever. I have toyed and toyed with color in my house. Now at this point in my life I am ready for clean white and relaxing. We have enough color with accessories that white walls with all the rich wood will look beautiful. When I get bored I can always change artwork or knick knacks. I have done my research and comparisons, and yes I am ready to commit to a paint color! White, I will update you exactly which white when I get it. I am so happy, the right paint store helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. The plan is to paint Sconicle’s, living room and my bedroom a refreshing white. I know what color I think I want but I want to be sure.

Decluttering my bedroom has included the busy wallpaper that I bought on sale years ago. I finally put it up a few years back and hated it. I wondered what I was thinking when I bought it! No more frustration with colors that bring me down, I am done feeling guilty after wasting money. The plan is to never waste that much money on a emotional irrational buy. Plan, plan and then budget and plan some more. Hubby feels good about my decision. My hardest decision has been the sheen! I finally found the right sheen for my shiny need that will not keep up Hubby during the day sleep.

Everyone I think needs inspiration. What I found is this picture here. It is not exactly what I love, but the comfy easy feel, the simple palate makes me warm and cozy inside.

Poop Free

There is only so much bull poop I can take, after feeding the chickens, the goats and dodging cow poop I opted for a night of The One free! I needed some relax time, not stress time. I highly doubt anyone that tells a farmer we will get a tax break.

I found somewhere a wonderful link about the changes America has gone through in a very brief graphic way. Go here to see the changes.

Yesterday somewhere I found a link where you can read free books online. It was under a Kindle 2 alternative. There is nothing better than free in my book, no going to the library. No wishing your library were better at having books you wanted to read. Nope you go online look for the book and start reading! Go here and see what you can find.

Sconicle has been sick, Gator was sick and he gave me the virus, then Hubby then of course, Sconicle was going to deal with it as well. Gator and Sconicle had to get some meds and a doctor visit. It is so refreshing when Sconicle feels good, after being sick for almost a week. He works so much faster and is so much happier. Me I am thrilled everyone is well, and my time is not spent trying to figure out how to get everyone healthy.

Last night we helped Hubby work on a pipe at the farm. It is fun to see a thing that you know hasn’t been seen by human eyes in 70 years. The pipe was near a cistern, and the cement was dated 1934. While he and Gator were struggling to take apart the pipe, Sconicle, Pancho, Lefty and I looked around for unique things from 1934. You never know what you will find there, I am surprised every time. We think of it as treasure hunts, that way the work is more interesting.

Well the chicks are waiting my getting the kids there, have a great day!

I have Too Much

I have too much. I know I have said it before, but honestly on every shelf in every corner there is too much stuff. That includes even my spice shelf. Sometimes I have said in the past that my brain works differently, and it does. I begin to wonder about something and then I look for an answer to handle it once and for all.

So my quest was my spices. I inherited spices along with a lot of other stuff from my mom’s kitchen. The problem I had was since I didn’t buy them I had no idea when they were bought. I go to Tipnut often in search of recipes for homemade cleaners. Out of the blue I found a link about spice organizing. It had a link to look up old spice numbers.

Now to help you out. This is where you can look up a lot of your spices.

Easy Way to look up spices McCormick

Way to look up Spice Islands

I buy a lot of Adam’s spices, they are cheaper and in my experience really fresh. I went to their site but could not find a link for checking on age. I contacted them in case there was one I missed. I got a really fast reply that Adam’s only uses dates.

I replied promptly that I would include that information, only problem was I had not checked my spices. Well let me say that some of Adam’s don’t include a date, I know this because I have a few of them. They need to be tossed, and since the label says 1994 copyright, it is pretty clear they are too old.

Here is the Adam’s Link Hubby’s family swear by Malabar Pepper, which I use in cooking. I also prefer the Vanilla Extract over others.

Every part of my home is being decluttered, and I know how hard it is first hand to figure out what needs to go.

Don’t think look it up and toss, your family will gain better flavored food!
