Fighting Mad

My circle of breast cancer friends are without my biggest supporters. Our fearless leader just had surgery last week, and even so she is ready and willing to take on the White House on the new indications of Mammograms.

Aspirin Honey Mask

I have heard about this concoction for a few months. After pricing the exfoliaters I like I have decided to try it. I always have honey on hand, and aspirin is cheap. I used two old aspirins that I found in an emergency kit, they were from 2006. I also added some water, next time I am skipping the water. I have a pedestal and mortar so I can use that instead, then you add a teaspoon of hone. With my old soft toothbrush (oral B) I gently rubbed it in. Remember my skin is extremely sensitive, it did not activate my skin at all. I had found a video where the woman’s skin was beautiful, and she explained why but this video shows you better how to do it.

Since I have tried this I will no longer buy exfoliaters they don’t do what this does for a fraction of the price.

Cowgirl Gussy

I love twitter. To me there is something refreshing about saying something in 140 characters or less. One of the wonderful excitements of twitter is finding people I would have never found otherwise. If someone tweets something interesting you look up the originator of the tweet and sometimes you find a friend you would not have met otherwise!

Ubetcha is one such friend. When you go to her website you will see wonderful t-shirts on “earthy” kids. I just love her commitment to horse adoption, her sharing of Links to wonderful places as well. Jenny is in Montana. Montana is a place I truly love, big open skies is how I remember Montana. Horses and genuine people is also a memory I have from visiting there as a child many times.

Jenny will tell you what few will which is “gussied up” cowgirl stuff is rampant but the original artistic American made artistic work is worth looking for. She has the stuff and if not she can show you where to go to get the stuff when you want to look your best.

We are headed to the Texas State Fair next month, already my insecurities of what to wear is rearing it’s head! How much is too much Rhinestone? How much is too much Silver? I will wear cotton that is for sure but which boots work, yet look good? My trust in Jenny to pull me through the event is exciting. Her taste is balanced, and yet earthy wonderful.

I have put off buying boots for years, but I really need some. Saturday was my last day of being bit by fire ants while trying to work goats wearing crocs. I hate fire ants, and when you are busy working the last thing you want to do is watch out for ants while you have to go places where fire ants might be. The  boys and Hubby are never stung because if you are wearing boots the fire ants don’t bit through boots.

I had been thinking about boots, but since my feet have so many bites I made up my mind. I know you are asking yourself why don’t just kill all the ants. You have to remember 700 acres is a lot to handle, and also our goats tend to nibble anything not nailed down. We cannot throw out ant killer right by where we know the goats will be nibbling.

I am counting on Jenny to steer me in the right direction of what I want and need.

Goat Day

I was scouring the net for something fabulous for the blog. Then I remembered we have goats to sell today. I don’t even have the dang carrier ready!  The two male half dairy/half boer goats are headed to the goat auction.

Brown Spot is getting ready to head to Dallas next month. If we can get rid of some more it would be so much easier. We are outnumbered, and if you are not careful out manned by the herd of goats that will do anything to get out and graze on the tender trees.

I promised Gator I would cook some eggs today for extra protein, he worked the cattle sale yesterday till late last night.

I made the makeup brush cleaner yesterday which led to me storing my brushes upright, and completely reorganizing the bathroom. The cleaner worked wonderfully, I highly recommend it.  They are clean, soft and in good shape. I lost very few hairs as well.

I took a tangled icicle strand, yeah I know it sounds weird but it was stiff and had maneuverability. I shoved it in a mason jar, I looked for a crystal vase but the mason jar was handy. Now my brushes are upright and perfectly clean. I cleaned out a bunch of stuff we only use in the summer like burn cream, and old cologne bottles.  I am so glad I did it! To know our bathroom is organized makes getting ready so much easier, when you have less to look through it is so much faster.

What I realised yet again is organizing doesn’t have to be expensive, it only takes a lot of creativity! You have to think outside the box. I had looked for glass marbles, to no avail. Rice wouldn’t work because of the humidity. Beans just seemed too ugly. Bring on tangled plastic icicles that I did not want to throw away and yet where to stick the stupid thing!

I am hoping some of you will share the ideas you use to save money while getting your life easier to manage.

Tomorrow I will find something spectacular, but right now I have to cook for the boys.

Makeup Brush Cleaner

I use brushes to apply make-up. I am a big fan of mineral make-up, and I love Everyday Minerals. I can get so much compared more to Bare Minerals. I have tried just plain shampoo and was not happy with the results. In comes the beauty of You Tube. If you look it up you will find many examples of how to make your own brush cleaner.

Mac and Sephora cleaners are from $6 to $14 dollars a bottle. With this recipe most people I think have most materials already. I looked around and most of the recipes are about the same.

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 1/4 cup alcohol
  • 1/2 tbsp dishwater detergent (most suggest a grease fighter kind)
  • 1/2 tbsp shampoo (some say baby, some say any normal to oily)
  • 1 tbsp spray on leave in conditioner (make sure it is liquid not cream or gel)
  • bottle
  • funnel

You have stir this concoction gently because the soap ingredients will foam up if not careful.

This is a video of how to do it.

Here is another example

This technique is gentle enough not to ruin your brushes. The alcohol is the disinfectant in your cleaner.
